Hey,
Thanks for checking out video # 3.
Rickson was really smart. He looked at fighting like no one else does. That’s what makes him and his Jiu Jitsu totally different.
I was really blessed for getting to train with Rickson for 15 year. And, it was during the prime of his fighting career.
He was fighting in Japan at the time in the largest Vale Tudo shows in the world. The UFC just started it’s first wave of popularity.
It was an AMAZING TIME. There will never be another time like it again.
I got to see and train first hand with Rickson as he was evolving his Vale Tudo Jiu Jitsu game. It was all CLOSED DOOR Top Secret training. His family and just a hand full of us even got a glimpse of it.
When you are the BEST EVER, and fighting for the honor of your family and Jiu-Jitsu you got to keep your game under wraps so your opponents don't know what your doing. Rickson’s couldn't risk his opponents studying his game in any way. We were all loyal Team Members and would never breath a word of it outside the inner circle.
We wouldn’t even train the techniques during the public classes, CLOSE DOOR ONLY. People were starting to cross train a lot and you never knew who would tell who and eventually the information might get into the hands of someone he might fight. Especially the Wrestlers who were starting learn Jiu-Jitsu to dominate Vale Tudo with ground and pound.
There was always talk of who Rickson was going to Fight next? All the sudden there was talk of the Japanese pitting Rickson against one of these new MONSTER wrestlers.
Rickson started training hard, really had to develop a lot of new techniques and strategies to combat guys MUCH Bigger, usually on ROIDS who were not interested in passing the guard, but content to stay safe and inflict massive damage.
One of the most important new developments was a BRAND NEW Type of Guard. We had already seen the devastation that TOP Jiu Jitsu guys faced with a HUGE Wrestler in their closed guard.
Remember Head Butts and Spiking Elbows were fully LEGAL so traditional closed guard just didn’t work.
I have NEVER taught these guard concepts and techniques before to the public. To my knowledge they have not been taught outside of Rickson's close inner circle.
At my Costa Rica Sub and Surf camp was the first time outsiders saw it and here is some of it for you.
Enjoy, and please post your comments or questions below.
